The Eleventh Day of #SADDmas!

by Rachael Pishtek

My name is Rachael and I am the Director of Marketing and Development for Northern Lights Youth Services. I was also involved in SADD in my high school days, serving on the Northern Lights Advisory Board and as the North Dakota representative on the National SADD Student Leadership Council.

Even though SADD has always been an integral part of my life, my life that could have been suggests differently. I was so blessed to be adopted into a warm and kind family the day that I was born. My biological mother struggled with substances in the past and was battling her own demons when she found herself pregnant with me. Knowing her story, I decided from a young age that I never wanted to go down that path and more importantly, help others that struggled with these issues.

SADD was a natural fit for me in high school and a natural fit in my professional life. I work with three of the most passionate and compassionate people I have ever met. We have a small staff, with very little turnover and a collective drive towards a common goal: to lead in the development and support of positive youth development. I get to work with and for students across the region who just want a fair shot at life, for themselves and for their peers. Students who have a platform to inform their community on what is happening in the lives of youth. If you are an adult, please know that there are students in your community that care about the future of your town of 50, 500 or 5,000. I hope that you can contribute to their mission!
