Northern Lights SADD Selects Miranda Johnson of New Rockford as Student of the Year

Hillsboro, ND: Northern Lights Youth Services, the agency that brings SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) to the Dakotas and Minnesota has chosen Miranda Johnson of New Rockford as their Student of the Year. This board, better known as the Northern Lights Advisory Board (NLAB) is a collection of young people who have gone through an application process and have been elected by his or her peers to serve as the youth voice for Northern Lights Youth Services and Northern Lights SADD. The NLAB are lead by one student who is selected by the Northern Lights Youth Services Staff and Board, known as the Student of the Year. The key responsibilities of the NLAB are planning the Northern Lights Conference, assisting in creation of NL SADD programming and serving as ambassadors for the organization, just to name a few!

Johnson, who is a junior at New Rockford-Sheyenne High School, has served on the NLAB for the past two years. Johnson says that she was motivated to join SADD because she believes in everything the organization stands for and wanted to advocate for fellow students. As the Student of the Year, Johnson will chair meetings across the state of North Dakota, speaking with students about various prevention related topics and promoting the SADD organization at various events.

Rachael Pishtek is a SADD alumna who served on the Northern Lights Advisory Board for two years and as the North Dakota representative on the National Student Leadership Council 2011-2012.

Pishtek, a 2015 graduate of Concordia College,  now works in marketing and development for Northern Lights Youth Services.
