2010-2011 NLAB and Student of the Year Applications

Attached you will find the applications for the 2010-2011 Northern Lights Advisory Board (NLAB) and Northern Lights SADD Student of the Year.

One important change is that this year, the Student of the Year process will be open to applicants from Minnesota and South Dakota as well. However, any SOY applicants must be committed to attending the NL SADD conference in Jamestown. We thought this would be the fairest method of including students outside of ND until we get to the point where each state has its own annual conference.

There is also no mandatory video requirement from SOY applicants. Instead, the applicants will be narrowed down to a small list of finalists, who will be interviewed over the phone by members of the selection panel.

Again, each chapter can have one SOY applicant and up to two NLAB applicants. Depending upon the number of NLAB applicants we receive, the applications may be screened and some candidates eliminated to limit the number of finalists appearing on the ballot at the NL conference. Therefore, the deadline dates for the applications need to be followed.

We are interested in getting more Minnesota students involved in the NLAB. Our goal in the near future is to have a board of students from each state, from which representatives would be selected to serve on the tri-state NLAB, which would serve as a central planning and strategizing committee. Aside from mandatory attendance at the upcoming NL SADD conference in Jamestown, ND, the NLAB members would be asked to attend two meetings – one major planning meeting in the summer and another before Christmas for conference planning, in addition to keeping in touch by e-mail and Facebook and doing whatever can be done to help promote and build SADD in their region.

As always, let me know if you have any questions!
