Each year, students from around the Northern Lights SADD region make a difference by contributing their ideas, energy, time, and dedication to NL SADD, and now we're looking for SADD's next leaders!

Are you a motivated high school SADD student looking to represent SADD on a larger level? Apply to be a SADD representative on the 2012-2013 Northern Lights Advisory Board (NLAB), or as the 2012-2013 SADD Student of the Year (SOY).

Deadline for SOY applications is Friday, February 24th, 2012.
Deadline for NLAB applications is Thursday, March 1st, 2012.

2011 ND Youth Risk Behavior Survey results are out and high school drinking rates took another big drop.

Here are the rates of high school students who have used alcohol in the past 30 days, since we began our efforts in 1999:

1999: 60.5%
2001: 59.2%
2003: 54.2%
2005: 49%
2007: 46.1%
2009: 43.3%
2011: 38.8%

We have actually reversed that 60/40 ratio we began with. This is undeniable proof that we ARE making a difference and changing the social norm- great work, everyone!

Recently an ABC Family Original movie, called Cyberbully, aired on television. No, this is not a movie review but the acting was well done and the story line was nicely put together. In the movie, a teenage girl gets her own computer for her birthday and makes an account on a very popular website. Almost immediately, her account is hacked and inappropriate things start spreading around online about her. Her troubles continue for a few weeks and it gets so bad that she attempts to commit suicide. She is unsuccessful. Unfortunately, that is not the case with many teens today.
